Kotor Bakeries
Where to Buy Fresh Bread in Kotor
Bakeries in Kotor are concentrated outside the Old Town walls, with most pekare lining the bay road through Dobrota and the inland routes toward Škaljari. Inside the walls space is limited, and the bakery offer is reduced to a couple of small counters serving the morning workforce and early Old Town traffic. The standard offer covers fresh hleb in white and rye loaves, savoury filo pies sold by weight, sweet pastries and a small range of cakes.
Burek is the dominant local bakery item, sold as a coiled filo pie filled with cheese (sa sirom), meat (sa mesom), spinach (sa spanaćem) or potato. Most pekare cut the burek to weight,, with portion sizes around 200 to 300 grams. Burek is a breakfast and morning-snack staple rather than an all-day item, so the trays are heaviest early in the day and may sell out by midday on busy weekends.
Most bakeries open from 06:00 or earlier and run through to mid-evening, with a few extending hours in summer. Smaller pekare are cash-preferred, the larger ones inside supermarkets and bus-station kiosks accept cards. There is no booking system, everything is over-the-counter walk-in.
