The mountains of Vrmac rise sharply behind, pressing the built area close to the water and giving Dobrota one of the most distinctive coastal silhouettes on the bay.
Dobrota's history is closely tied to the maritime wealth of the Bay of Kotor. From the seventeenth to the nineteenth century it was among the most prosperous settlements on the bay, built on the fortunes of its merchant families and naval officers. The stone palaces and baroque facades that survive along the waterfront are the legacy of that era. Several historic churches are scattered through the settlement, and the Institute of Marine Biology reflects a continuing connection between Dobrota and the sea.
Restaurants in Dobrota line the waterfront, serving fresh seafood from konobas built out over the water, and the promenade is well suited to walking and cycling. Places to stay range from apartments and boutique guesthouses to larger hotels with private jetties and direct bay access. Boat tours and kayaking operate from the waterfront, and Kotor's Old Town is a short drive or cycle south along the bay road. The listings below cover accommodation, restaurants, tours and local services in and around Dobrota.
