Kotor Old Town
Inside the medieval walls visitors find Saint Tryphon's Cathedral, the Maritime Museum, narrow squares lined with konobas and the path up to the fortress.

The street plan within the walls has changed little since the Middle Ages, and the density of historic buildings within this small area is exceptional.
The Cathedral of St Tryphon, first consecrated in 1166 and rebuilt after earthquake damage in 1667, anchors the main square. Around it stand the churches of St Luke, St Nicholas and St Mary, along with baroque palaces associated with the city's merchant and sea captain families. The Clock Tower on Pjaca od Oružja marks the central civic space, flanked by the Venetian loggia and the Napoleonic-era theatre building. The whole ensemble sits within a circuit of walls reinforced through the Venetian period and still largely intact.
Kotor Old Town is a ten-minute walk from the main car parks and cruise port. Entry is through the original gates on foot, and most of the area's heritage is encountered simply by walking the streets rather than visiting managed sites. The city walls can be climbed in full, with the ascent to San Giovanni taking around 45 minutes. Restaurants, boutique hotels and historic sites within the walls are covered in the listings below.
