Bars and Late-Night Spots in Kotor
Kotor nightlife runs from quiet Old Town wine bars and small-square cocktail terraces to Maximus, the bay's largest club, and the seasonal lounge bars along the harbour.
Drinking in Kotor happens in two places: the small squares hidden inside the Old Town walls, and the chain of bars that lines the harbour and the bay road heading north. The two have completely different rhythms.
Inside the walls, the squares, Pjaca od Oružja, Trg od Mlijeka, Trg od Salate, are wrapped with bar terraces that fill from late dinner through midnight. Wine glasses run €3 to €5, cocktails €6 to €10, a local Nikšičko beer €2.50. Volume is low because the surrounding stone absorbs sound; conversation is easy. The labyrinth of lanes between the squares means a quiet table is rarely more than one corner away from a busy one, and most bars stay open as long as people keep ordering.
A short walk from Pjaca, Maximus is the regional anchor for serious club nights. Three floors, multiple rooms, international DJs through July and August, doors at €10 to €25 depending on the lineup. It runs Friday and Saturday only outside peak season and stays open to 04:00 or 05:00. A handful of smaller cocktail bars near the Sea Gate (Letrika is a fixture) handle the lower-key end of the same evening.
Outside the walls, the seasonal beach bars and lounge terraces along the bay road from the cruise port north through Dobrota open from late June to early September. Lounge electronic, acoustic sets and the occasional regional band run from sunset through midnight. The view across the bay is the main draw and drinks are slightly cheaper than inside the walls.
From November through April most seasonal venues close. The evening trade falls back to year-round Old Town wine bars, hotel terraces and a handful of cafés on the bay road. Card payment is universal; tipping rounds up to the nearest euro or two and is not expected on every drink.
