Seafood Restaurants in Kotor

Seafood restaurants in Kotor and along the Bay of Kotor coast serve local mussels, Adriatic fish, oysters and traditional bokeški specialities, mainly along the Dobrota waterfront, inside Kotor Old Town and in the bay villages of Prčanj, Perast and Ljuta.

The Dobrota road from the Old Town to the Verige strait is the main seafood corridor: a string of waterfront restaurants serving grilled whole fish (riba na žaru), bay mussels (dagnje na buzaru), Adriatic squid and the local bokeški brodet (fish stew). Fish prices are quoted by the kilogram, generally €30 to €50/kg for sea bass (brancin), sea bream (orada) and dentex, with mussels at €8 to €12 a portion. Most restaurants display the day's catch on ice at the entrance.

Inside the Old Town the seafood places are smaller and lean towards the konoba style: shorter menus, family-run kitchens and a focus on the bay's traditional dishes. A whole grilled fish with side and a glass of local wine typically lands at €25 to €40 a head. The bay's oyster farms in Ljuta and the Verige strait supply restaurants directly, so oysters are usually fresh-shucked at €1.50 to €2.50 a piece.

Reservations are strongly advised for evening meals from June to September, particularly for waterfront tables in Dobrota, Prčanj and Perast. Lunch is generally walk-in. The full seafood offer runs from April to October, with a smaller year-round selection in the Old Town and on the Dobrota road. Service tends to be slower than in northern European cities, reflecting local pace rather than poor attentiveness.
