The views from the upper village take in the full width of the inner bay, stretching northwest toward Perast and the outer coast beyond.

The village developed as a modest agricultural and fishing community in the shadow of the larger baroque towns to the east and west, and its architecture reflects that restrained history. Stone houses and terraced hillsides define the character of Gornji Stoliv, while Donji Stoliv sits closer to the water with a rocky shoreline characteristic of the southern bay. The Blue Cave, one of the most visited natural features on the outer coast, is accessible by boat from operators based nearby and is a short distance around the headland.

Stoliv is a relaxed base for visitors wanting to stay away from the busier parts of the bay, with self-catering apartments available at the water's edge and higher up the hill. Kotor is reachable in around fifteen minutes by car, and Tivat in a similar time along the coast.
