Baroque museum in Kotor Old Town
The Maritime Museum of Montenegro sits within Kotor Old Town in a restored Baroque palace and houses a permanent collection covering the maritime history of the Boka Bay region. Exhibits include model ships, navigational instruments, uniforms, weapons, maps, photographs and documents spanning several centuries. The collection traces the history of seafaring, naval defence and merchant trade in the bay from the medieval period through to the 20th century. The museum building is itself a historic landmark within the walled town.
The museum is on the main pedestrian street inside the Old Town, a short walk from the main square and the Sea Gate. Opening hours cover the main daytime period throughout the year, with extended hours during the summer season. A ticket is required for entry. The museum suits visitors interested in the maritime history and naval heritage of the Boka Bay region. The Baroque palace setting adds architectural interest to the visit. The museum is one of the main cultural attractions within the walled centre.
