Kotor Palaces

Baroque and Venetian-era palaces thread through the Kotor Old Town: sea-captain houses, merchant residences and civic buildings raised between the 14th and 18th centuries by the town's noble families. The Grgurina Palace houses the Maritime Museum, the Drago Palace beside the cathedral keeps its Gothic window tracery, and the Pima and Bizanti palaces show the baroque rebuilding that followed the 1667 earthquake.

Most remain in some form, with façades visible from the public lanes off Trg od Oružja and the surrounding squares. A handful now hold cafes, galleries and apartments, so the interiors are best seen where a business occupies the ground floor; the rest reward a slow walk with an eye on carved doorway crests and balcony ironwork.
