Kotor Town Walls are a continuous fortified system encircling the Old Town, extending from the waterfront gates up the mountainside to the San Giovanni fortress…Kotor Town Walls are a continuous fortified system encircling the Old Town, extending from the waterfront gates up the mountainside to the San Giovanni fortress at approximately 280 metres above sea level. 5 kilometres in total and include towers, bastions, gates and ramparts built over more than a thousand years by Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Austro-Hungarian authorities. The lower sections enclose the Old Town at ground level, while the upper walls climb the ridge in a dramatic ascent.
